The Sorrel — 2.00ct Pear with Pavé Band

Ring Size

Two carats of pear cut, point protected by a wrapped V-prong, on a band set with pavé two thirds of the way around.

The Design

Pear is the cut that separates good setting from bad. The point is the thinnest part of the stone and the first thing to chip, so it has to be wrapped rather than pinched; and because the shape is asymmetrical, a setting that is half a degree out of true makes the whole ring look crooked on the hand. The Sorrel uses a V-prong that closes fully over the tip, and the stone is seated against a marked axis so it runs dead straight down the finger. The gallery underneath is left open, which is why the stone still throws light in a restaurant rather than going flat.

THE MONTCLAIR DIAMOND GUIDE

Know what makes a diamond exceptional.

A beautiful ring starts with understanding the stone. These are the details that influence a diamond’s appearance, rarity and character.

01

Cut

Cut describes how precisely a diamond’s facets interact with light. Excellent proportions help create brightness, fire and scintillation, often making cut the most noticeable of the 4Cs.

02

Colour

Diamond colour is graded from D to Z. The closer a stone is to colourless, the less visible body colour it generally displays, allowing its brilliance to take centre stage.

03

Clarity

Clarity considers natural inclusions and surface characteristics. A VS1 diamond has very slight inclusions that are difficult to see under 10× magnification and are typically invisible to the unaided eye.

04

Carat

Carat measures diamond weight, not simply visual size. Shape, cut proportions and setting style can all influence how large a diamond appears on the hand.

INDEPENDENT CERTIFICATION

GIA certified diamonds.

GIA is one of the world’s best-known independent gemological laboratories. A GIA grading report documents the diamond’s individual characteristics, including measurements and the 4Cs, giving you an independent reference for the stone you are choosing.

Always refer to the grading report supplied with your individual diamond for its exact specifications.

CHOOSE YOUR CHARACTER

Every diamond shape has a different presence.

Round brilliant diamonds are renowned for sparkle. Oval and pear shapes create an elongated look on the finger. Emerald cuts reveal broad, mirror-like flashes through their step facets, while princess and cushion cuts balance contemporary geometry with distinctive brilliance.

CRAFTED TO BE WORN

18k white gold.

18k gold contains 75% pure gold alloyed with other metals for strength and wearability. White gold gives diamonds a bright, neutral setting that complements their natural brilliance.

THE RIGHT FIT

Choosing your ring size.

A well-fitted ring should slide over the knuckle with slight resistance and sit comfortably without spinning excessively. For the most accurate result, measure when your hands are at a normal temperature and compare against our US sizing options.

DIAMOND QUESTIONS

Before you choose your ring.

What does VS1 clarity mean?

VS1 stands for Very Slightly Included 1. Inclusions are difficult for a trained grader to see at 10× magnification and are generally not visible without magnification.

Is a higher carat always a better diamond?

No. Carat is only one characteristic. Cut quality, proportions, colour, clarity and personal preference all contribute to how a diamond looks and feels.

Why does diamond shape matter?

Shape changes the ring’s overall style and the way the stone presents on the hand. Different shapes also distribute their carat weight differently, so two diamonds of equal weight can appear different in size.

What does GIA certification tell me?

A GIA grading report provides an independent assessment of the diamond’s identifying characteristics and quality factors. The report for the individual stone is the definitive source for its exact grade and measurements.
